Can I use the front camera with QuietCam?

Yes. QuietCam supports both the front-facing and rear-facing cameras, including ultra wide, wide, and telephoto lenses on compatible iPhone models.

QuietCam provides full access to your iPhone's camera hardware, including the front-facing camera. You can switch between front and rear cameras within the app, just as you would in the built-in Camera app — but with the added benefit of a dark or disguised screen during capture. This makes front camera recording practical in situations where a bright selfie viewfinder would be distracting or inappropriate.

Front camera mode is useful for several common scenarios. Content creators can record POV-style video or selfie clips without a visible preview on screen. Professionals can record video notes or personal reflections without the screen lighting up their face. Users documenting experiences can capture their own reactions discreetly while the display appears off to anyone nearby.

On iPhone models with multiple rear lenses, QuietCam also lets you switch between ultra wide, wide, and telephoto cameras. Lens selection and camera switching are available in the app's settings before you begin recording. Once you start a session with the black screen active, you can still toggle between available cameras depending on your configuration.

All recording modes that support the rear camera also work with the front camera, including photo capture, video recording, and — with PRO — audio and burst modes where applicable. Video resolution and frame rate settings apply to whichever camera is active, with PRO subscribers able to record front camera video at up to 4K 60fps on supported hardware.

Keep in mind that Apple's camera privacy indicator appears regardless of which camera is in use. When the front camera is active, the green dot in the status bar or Dynamic Island signals that the camera is on — this is an iOS system requirement. QuietCam hides its own interface, but the system indicator remains visible as a privacy safeguard.
