About QuietCam

QuietCam is a black screen camera for iPhone built around a simple idea: you should be able to record what matters without a glowing screen, cluttered Camera Roll, or hidden data collection.

Why we built it

The default iPhone camera keeps a bright viewfinder lit the entire time it records. That drains the battery, distracts people nearby, and makes long-form capture — lectures, meetings, interviews, personal notes — awkward. QuietCam was created to solve exactly that: capture photos, video, and audio while the display stays dark, and keep every file private on your device.

Who makes QuietCam

QuietCam is designed and developed by Pawel Chmiel, an independent iOS developer who has shipped a range of camera and photo apps on the App Store. QuietCam is actively maintained, with the developer personally responding to App Store reviews and shipping regular updates — most recently version 1.2.1.

Our privacy principles

  • All recordings are stored locally on your device.
  • No analytics, no third-party trackers, and no ads.
  • No account or email is ever required.
  • Your media stays in a private in-app gallery unless you choose to export it. Read more in our privacy policy.

Responsible recording

QuietCam is built for legitimate, respectful use. We ask every user to follow local recording laws and to obtain consent where it is required. Apple's on-screen camera indicator remains visible while recording, so recording is never truly invisible. Learn more about the legal side in our guide on whether black screen recording is legal.

Trusted by thousands

QuietCam holds a 4.2-star rating across 51 App Store ratings and is used by 4,000+ people in the last 28 days. Explore our guides and FAQ to get the most out of the app.
